The Explosion Investigation Section is responsible for investigation of all kinds of explosion cases such as bombing incidents and explosion accidents. Explosion cases can become serious social problems due to their cruel damages on human bodies and properties. Our skill and research work concerning the explosion process, analysis of explosive residue, and evaluation of explosion power are applied to investigation.
Concerning novel IEDs, some explosion characteristics such as detonation velocity, fragment velocity, and blast pressure have been measured to evaluate the power of IEDs. The explosion tests are carried out in the largest explosion chamber in Japan.
A viscous material which can mitigate blast pressure and fragments was developed and applied to practical use on bomb disposal.
