Fifth Biology Section

This section is responsible for research and casework concerning isolation, classification, and identification of pathogenic microorganisms collected from environmental samples (soil, water, air, and so on) at the scene of a crime, including bioterrorism incidents.

Analyses and Detection of Biological Agents

Isolation and identification methods for pathogenic microorganisms that could be used for bioterrorism have been developed. We also evaluate some portable devices for detecting biological agents at the crime scene. Moreover, basic research work has been done on highly pathogenic viruses and bacteria.
