Activities as members of the Japan Disaster Relief team in Kathmandu, Nepal

NPA selects and delegates some technical officials as the members of International Police Communications Squad since January 2000. They are expected to be sent to foreign countries when Emperor and Empress go abroad, and to disaster areas as the members of the Japan Disaster Relief team. The officials establish info-communications means among the members and headquarters in Japan.
Since its establishment, NPA has dispatched the members of International Police Communications Squad to Saipan and Palau for imperial and dignitary protection, Algeria, Morocco, Thailand, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, New Zealand and Nepal as members of the Japan Disaster Relief team.
In April 2015, a huge earthquake attacked in Nepal. Two members of the squad joined the Japan Disaster Relief Team and contributed to the search and rescue activities in the affected areas by installing/operating radio communications and satellite communications equipment.
They also carry out practical drills periodically to keep and improve their abilities in Tokyo. Moreover, to accumulate experiences of working in unfamiliar places, they have trained even in foreign countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines so far.
