The National Police Academy provides high level education and training courses for those expected to be assigned as the chief of a police station, those promoted to the rank of police inspector (including those expected to be promoted to the rank) , those promoted to the post of assistant division chief (including those expected to be promoted to the post) , those who have passed the National Public Service Category I Examination and other police officers in supervisory positions in order for them to master management and leadership skills and practical ability such as knowledge and skills required for their posts.
Fundamental education and training courses at the National Police Academy are as follows: (As for the education and training courses to be carried out by the attached organizations and others, please refer to the sections concerned.)

COURSES
PERIOD
QUALIFICATION & PROGRAM
Police Management Course 2 to 3 weeks Those expected to be the chief of a police station are given education and training in management skills of organization and commanding skills of investigations required for the chief of a police station.
Course for Newly Appointed Inspectors 4 months Those promoted to the rank of police inspector (including those expected to be promoted to the rank) are given education and training to master knowledge and skills required for the section chief of a police station.
Course for Newly Appointed Assistant Division Chiefs 2 weeks Civilian police pesonnel promoted to assistant division chiefs (police inspector level) or expected to be promoted as such are given education and training to master kowledge and skills required for their posts.
Cadet Course 6 months Newly recruited police officers who have passed the National Public Service Category I Examination are given basic education and training required for senior level police officers.
Administrative Practice Course 3 weeks Those who have passed the National Public Service Category II Examination and are promoted to the rank of police inspector are given education and training required for the rank.
Physical Training Instructors Course 4 months Those who are physical training instructors [judo, kendo, arresting techniques and physical education] (including those expected to be training instructors) are given education and training to master technical knowledge and skills required for their posts.
Course for Instructors at Police Schools 1 month Those who hold the rank of police inspector or assistant police inspector (including civilian police personnel holding the corresponding ranks) and are expected to be an instructor at a prefectural or regional police school are given training to master knowledge and skills required for their posts.
Course for Experts Required period Those who hold the rank of assistant police inspector or above (including civilian police personnel holding the corresponding ranks) are given expert education and training to master a high level of knowledge and skills in specific fields and also carry out research in their specialized fields.
