| In the evening of November 15, 1977, a 13-year-old secondary school girl, Ms. YOKOTA Megumi, vanished somewhere a few hundred meters away from the seashore, after parting from one of her friends on her way home from school in Niigata City. She has not yet been found since then.
The Japanese police interviewed the persons concerned, obtained information in the neighborhood, and compared this case with a similar one. In addition, a former North Korean agent who defected to South Korea was questioned, and an exchange of information was conducted with the authorities and agencies concerned.
As a result of these investigations, it is believed that Ms. YOKOTA Megumi was abducted by North Korea, and then taken to the country.
