Functions
The Police Policy Research Center (PPRC) was established in May 1996, in order to conduct research into problems that the Japanese police face today or are likely to face in the near future.

The PPRC has been making researches into measures to combat organized crime, terrorism and other issues, since its establishment.

It facilitates the exchange of knowledge between police and researchers including university professors. The PPRC also engages in information exchanges with foreign researchers, universities and institutes.
Examples of our current research activities are as follows.


1.Symposium
The PPRC holds some symposium in a year related to public safety measures inviting domestic and overseas university researchers and practical experts in cooperation with related institutes and foundations.

2.Knowledge exchanges with external researchers
The PPRC Personnel have given presentations in related workshops such as research workshops for crime prevention legislations of the Association for the Study of Security Science, annual convention of Japanese Association of Sociological Criminology, in order to promote exchange of knowledge with academic societies and researchers.

The PPRC has conducted joint research on the counterterrorism legislations of various countries with the Law School of Keio University since FY2003.The PPRC also conducts research on tendency of crimes by elderly people, the member of which has recently increased.


3.Lectures in universities and graduate schools
In order to develop research and diffuse the results related to police policies, the PPRC dispatches a number of their personnel to universities and graduate schools such as the Law School of Chuo University, Faculty of Urban Liberal Arts of Tokyo Metropolitan University, Faculty of Law of Housei University and let them make lectures.


4.Providing information on Japanese police through participating in police-related international academic conferences.
In order to provide information on Japanese police to foreign researchers, The PPRC proactively participates in academic events such as police-related international conferences. The PPRC makes materials about Japanese crime situation, Japanese police system and activities in foreign languages in order to introduce them to overseas researchers.
