Suspected Abduction Case of a Couple (Niigata Prefecture)
On July 31, 1978, Mr.HASUIKE Kaoru, 20, left home by a bicycle, saying that he would be back soon. Ms.OKUDO Yukiko, 22, left the office after work, saying to her colleagues that she would meet him on that day. The bicycle was found in front of the public library hundreds meters away from the seashore in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata.
The Japanese police interviewed the persons concerned for the situation, obtained the information in the neighborhood, compared this case with a similar one, and exchanged information with the authorities and agencies concerned. As a result of these required investigations, it is believed that they were abducted by North Korea, and then taken to North Korea.
The family name of Ms.OKUDO Yukiko was changed to HASUIKE as a result of the registration of her marriage with Mr. HASUIKE to the Japanese authority after their return on Oct 15, 2002.
For the purpose of collecting relevant information, old photographs (taken circa 1978) are used on this site.
